some recent and not so recent illustration

sorry for the dead blog. im trying to get better about this! shooting for a “painting a day” type deal again. and i have a lot of things i’ve been working on that’ll be released in the next month or so (HOPEFULLY!) school has been keeping me busy as always.

ahhh illustration 3….a project a week will be the end of me! but at least i’m making a looot of art and learning quickly! and i love my class. and my teacher!

small talk is big
small talk is big. this was for an article about how technology has changed the way we communicate, and how much we communicate…not always in a bad way. i used my sister brittany as a reference for the blonde girl.

i got your back
this was an anthropomorphizing project…it’s about trust and friendship/relationships. i love the fat little squirrel thats late to the game!

falling bunnies
falling bunnies….we had to make a repeating pattern for fabric. conkers inspired, of course.

take these broken wings and learn to fly
blackbird….illustrate a beatles song. this one was in honor of my sister since that was one of her favorite songs. it was a bit of a technical disaster though….i think i’m going to redo it the way i want to in the summer.

coffee dog coffee
not illustration, but you can order stuff with this coffee lovin’ doggie at my cafepress shop.

these two are from last semester’s illustration class:

hitchcock's the birds
movie poster for hitchcock’s the birds….skeeeery huh!

not enough homes for them all
not enough homes for them all – this was a charity poster for the SFSPCA.

and a couple LILBun designs bunnies:

gozer

so my wonderfully sweet boyfriend got me a dog for christmas – he arrived a little late (never something to be rushed) but he’s made himself right at home and i love him to death. i couldn’t have asked for a better dog…even if he does hog the bed.

i got a doooog!
this is a good example of the value & contrast i really love in photography – its a little odd. i feel like now that we have these AMAZING high quality cameras available to us, we feel like all photography has to be perfectly detailed and clear in all areas. as i was editing these pictures, i was thinking about how you can only see half of gozer’s face in most of these pictures and a lot of his black color fades into shadow, the shadow and dog become one and the same. i like that.

value is the backbone of art and photography – its so important, because it makes shapes and composition. it gives our eyes a place to rest in an image. we had this discussion in class the other day actually….old black and white films and black and white photography being so beautiful because of the emphasis on lighting, contrast and value. maybe we CAN’T see everything – that’s what’s interesting about it! color is wonderful but it’s not the most important. its all about value. i like the shapes that gozer makes in these pictures due to the high contrast between his fur and the floor….my dog is a beautiful mutt!
